Case study: Neath Port Talbot
(Victoria will reach out to Cross Key Homes for a 2025 case study, highlighting that we didn’t facilitate. Could use Neath Port to highlight design and facilitation as already have their quote and Rhiannon would advocate for I am sure. They are both Public Sector so I will see if I can get a third sector one.)

Consultancy
Access our extensive knowledge and experience, offering advice on operations, organizational practices, and future development.
What is consultancy? And who is it for?
The provision of advice, knowledge and expertise within the befriending sector and community development may be the right solution if you are either:
- Exploring launching a befriending pilot or project in your community
- Wishing to identify development for an existing project in your community
- Hoping to audit your current project and receive guidance for improvements
- Seeking support in creating a proposal for project development
- Responding to a risk or governance event and projecting the next steps
How does consultancy work?
We tailor the support and guidance provided through consultancy to your organisation’s needs. Consultancy can commonly consist of the following five steps and their related tasks:
- Clear expectations and contract
- Investigating the client’s needs and creating a case-specific contract to ensure transparency on abilities and costing. Addressing any miscommunication and encouraging feedback before any following investment or action occurs.
- Discovery and Discussion
- This is an opportunity to investigate a project, whether conceptual or actual. Researching variables such as project stakeholders, environment of project delivery and organisational capacity to gain a better understanding to frame the discussion and advice provided.
- Feedback and Recommendations
- Once discovery and discussion are complete, Befriending Networks creates a written document with feedback and recommendations for the next steps.
- Execution
- This is an opportunity for a project to independently action the feedback and recommendations or to gain support from Befriending Networks to do so. The duration of this phase is unique to the individual client.
- Extension or closure
- This is where the client decides to either (a) extend consultancy if needed to seek further advice on the next stages of discovery, implementation, or to address any shortcomings, or (b) it is the end of the contract, and the client case is closed as all work commissioned is completed.
With Befriending Networks, we can support through all five stages, though this is determined during stage one, clear expectations and contract.
Who has received consultancy in the past?
In recent years, Befriending Networks has provided consultancy for:
- Neath Port Talbot Council
- Including an audit of the project operations, recommendations for improvement and the design of volunteer training and handbook.
- Age UK National
- Including an audit of the project standards and communications with satellite Age UK locations and the bespoke design of e-learning for Age UK staff and volunteers.
- Waltham Forest Commissioning Board
- Including the review of the council’s service providers, development of outcomes model and monitoring of impact.
- Sky, Time to Care
- An audit of the befriender training provided to staff, followed by the bespoke design of new befriender training.
Maybe best to get one quote ^ and have a case study?
How much does consultancy cost?
Each contract is unique to the client and their individual needs. We set the cost of your consultancy after a free 1:1 consultation.
We appreciate that an estimate can be useful for understanding what is possible for scoping investment and budget. For this reason, we give you the following price range. Recent consultancy at Befriending Networks has ranged from £2,500 to £37,700. Costing can be outlined for potential clients through the discussion of a free consultation meeting.
