If you’re in need of support, Chester Pride’s Befriending Service is here for you. Dedicated to addressing social isolation and mental health challenges in the local LGBTQ+ community, our objective is to enhance your mental well-being through personalised one-on-one peer support sessions. You’ll be paired with a dedicated befriender, who is focused on helping you foster meaningful connections and boosting your self-esteem and confidence. Over 6 weeks, your befriender will empower you to achieve personal goals with their guidance, offering crucial early intervention. If additional support is required, we’re here to assist with further signposting and referrals to necessary services.
Service Eligibility
You must live within our catchment area of Chester, Cheshire West, Merseyside and North Wales, and self-identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Information for Volunteers
Your involvement will play a crucial role in directly supporting and uplifting individuals within the LGBTQ+ community, making a significant impact on reducing social isolation and addressing mental health challenges. You will go through thorough vetting, including a DBS check, reference checks, and volunteer induction, in addition to two three hour training sessions designed to give you the skills and knowledge needed to provide meaningful support as a volunteer befriender. You will meet with your befriendee once a week to achieve personal goals over a 6 week period.
We are looking for empathetic, non-judgemental people from a range of different backgrounds, with lived experience within the LGBTQ+ community.
