About Netherton Feelgood Factory

The Feelgood Befriending Programme aims to reduce social isolation and improve the mental and emotional well-being of older and vulnerable individuals by providing regular companionship and support through visits from dedicated and caring volunteers. The target group is adults aged 50+, with limited social support networks, mobility issues, or experiencing loneliness and isolation.
The volunteers commit to spending at least one hour per week with their assigned older adult to engage in conversation, share activities, and provide emotional support.
During these visits, they can engage in a variety of activities such as:
– Having conversations about past experiences and current interests
– Playing board games, puzzles, or cards
– Sharing hobbies like knitting or cooking
– Reading books, newspapers, or letters
– Providing help with using technology like smartphones or computers.

Glovers Lane, Bootle, England, L30 5QW

Service Eligibility

The service is open to adults aged 50+ who are experiencing loneliness or social isolation and who find it difficult to leave their own home.  The area we cover are the wards of St Oswald’s, Netherton and Linacre in the metropolitan borough of Sefton.  We cannot provide personal care and our service is not suitable for people in advanced stages of dementia.  We reserve the right to refuse a service to any individuals who exhibit difficult or offensive behaviour.

Information for Volunteers

Volunteers act as friendly visitors who are matched with an older person.  They commit to spending at least one hour per week with their assigned older adult to engage in conversation, share activities and provide emotional support.

Befrienders need to be patient and sympathetic listeners; experience of life is more important than training or qualifications.

Applicants complete our volunteer application form prior to a face-to-face meeting.  Following this, references will be sough and an Enhanced DBS requested.  All volunteers will undergo comprehensive training sessions and regular support and supervision will be provided by a designated support worker they can contact for any concerns or questions.
