About Orkney Blide Trust
The Orkney Blide Trust provides a small befriending service to help people in their recovery of mental health. This service is a small service that provides 7 hours a week from our befriending coordinator. The coordinator supports both the befriendee and befriender throughout their matching process and during their match to enable both to have a positive experience.

Service Eligibility
Any one of our members can be considered to have a befriender.
Referrals can also come from other agencies. These will be considered if this is the right service for the person as sometimes they may require more in-depth one to one for their mental health before they reach a stage in their recovery that a befriender will benefit.
Information for Volunteers
We ask our volunteers to give 1-2 hours a week. We ask that the volunteer is reliable, trustworthy and non-judgemental.
We do an initial meeting to gain more information about the volunteer and the reasons why they would like to volunteer. We provide them with a job description of the roles and responsibilities that we are looking for in a volunteer. A check list is completed to ensure we provided all relevant information about our service.
An application form is handed in by the volunteer. Following on from this the coordinator will invite them to complete training, this is delivered by the coordinator.
We require 2 references, along with regular supervision sessions.
Once all of the above has been meet then the matching process can happen.
Volunteers can find information and contact details on our website.
