Boost your skills and confidence with Train the Trainer, starting Tuesday 2 June.

We’ve launched a new resource to support your volunteer training

Every year for Volunteers’ Week, we add a new resource to the Befriender Training Toolkit. For 2025, we’ve added a guide to creating your own case study scenarios for training.

When you’re training volunteers, it’s important to get them thinking about how they would apply their learning in real life scenarios. This is where case studies are an invaluable addition to your training programme. Whether it’s exploring how to deal with boundaries that have been overstepped, responding to safeguarding issues or other common topics, these scenarios can help your befrienders understand how they should respond. They are also an opportunity for participants to discuss, connect, share experiences and ideas.

In this supportive resource, you’ll find…

  • The benefits of using case study scenarios in training
  • The key elements to include in a scenario
  • Commons mistakes
  • Top tips to make your scenarios accessible and effective
  • Examples of case study scenarios, with discussion points and tips for facilitating the discussion

To access the guide, visit the Befriender Training Toolkit. This is a member-exclusive resource. Not a member yet? Find out more about joining Befriending Networks.
