Celebrating the power of intergenerational practice (Video)

This week is Global Intergenerational Week, when communities across the world celebrate the power of connection between generations. To celebrate, we’re sharing a very special research event exploring the benefits and impacts of intergenerational practice. Taking place in May 2025, the event brought together researchers from three universities, who shared their insights and answered questions about building intergenerational connections in communities. The session featured:

  • Community based intergenerational engagement: health and wellbeing impacts of older adult volunteers, by Professor Louise Nicholls of University of Strathclyde and Professor Alan Gow of Heriot-Watt University
  • Intergenerational practice is the beginning of an inclusive society, by Jo Thompson Coon and Rebecca Whear of the National Institute for Health and Care Research
  • A Q&A session with the researchers
