About Hesketh Bank and Tarleton Helpers

We are a small charity operating in and around the villages of Tarleton, Hesketh Bank and North Meols in West Lancashire.  We have a number of different projects, in particular our weekly Community Cafe, Dementia Carers’ Group and Befriending Service.  Our Befriending Service supports older people suffering from loneliness and/or social isolation.  Following an assessment by the Volunteer Co-ordinator, clients accepted onto the scheme will be matched with a local volunteer befriender for regular face to face meetings either in the client’s home or local venue.  Where appropriate and if both parties agree. befrienders may accompany clients to coffee mornings and similar social gatherings. Our Befriending Service is free but please note it is only available to clients in Tarleton, Hesketh Bank and North Meols (i.e. Banks and Hundred End).

Service Eligibility

Our service is open to older people living in Tarleton, Hesketh Bank or North Meols ( Banks and Hundred End) in West Lancashire.  We can accept referrals from friends or family on behalf of a client, but the client themselves must want to have visits from a Befriender.  We prefer to receive referrals by email: heskethbankandtarletonhelpers@gmail.com

Information for Volunteers

We are always looking for friendly, reliable volunteers willing to make regular visits to a lonely or socially isolated older person.  Ideally, you will live in the vicinity of Tarleton, Hesketh Bank and North Meols.  The time commitment is 1 hour per week/flexible.  Befrienders need to be prepared to undergo training for the role.  The cost of this, and of any DBS checks will be borne by the Charity.  Reasonable volunteer expenses will be paid.

Please express an interest by email – heskethbankandtarletonhelpers@gmail.com – and we will be in touch to discuss further.
