‘A Connected Scotland’ is Launched
19th December 2018
Befriending Networks is pleased to see the launch of Scottish Government’s strategy ‘A Connected Scotland’ to tackle loneliness and isolation. We are particularly pleased to note the profile of Befriending within the strategy under Priority 3, the funding for ourselves as part of the infrastructure support to the sector and of the important role Befriending and Befrienders play, in tackling social isolation and loneliness within communities across Scotland being recognised.
We also welcome the announcement of £1million fund spread over 2 years to test new and innovative approaches, the formation of a Ministerial Steering Group and a National Implementation Group.
We look forward to working with the government over the next 2 years to begin the process, and supporting the vision of ‘A Scotland where individuals and communities are more connected, and everyone has the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships regardless of age, stage, circumstances or identity’.
