Befriend a Child achieve reaccreditation in Excellence Award

Congratulations to the team at Befriend a Child for their reaccreditation as an Excellence Award holder!
Befriend a Child are an Aberdeen based organisation that supports children and young people through 1:1 befriending matches. The service users are often growing up in difficult circumstances, facing challenges due to issues such as poverty, neglect and abuse, parental substance and alcohol misuse and bereavement.
Befriend a Child have been a Quality in Befriending Award holder since 2013 and have had Excellence since 2022. The service was very highly regarded by staff, volunteers, young people and their family members, who have a strong sense of belonging and connection. It was often described as being “like a family” during stakeholder interviews.
The documents provided as evidence were clear and accessible. Information is presented in a way that is appropriate for the people who are using the resource. A good example of this is their confidentiality policy, which members can access in our resources. The assessment also showed that the organisation ensures their staff are confident in their work, with staff completing Train the Trainer to enable them to train volunteers from within the team.
