Blind Veterans UK receive Quality in Befriending Excellence Award
31st March 2025
Befriending Networks member Blind Veterans UK has been reaccredited with the Quality in Befriending Excellence Award.
Blind Veterans are a UK charity, who have been providing support to veterans experiencing sight loss since 1915. Their UK-wide befriending service has been running for over 5 years and can be provided either in person (including in the home) or over the telephone, as well as group befriending opportunities.
Many of the volunteers have experience of military service – either their own or a loved one’s – which means they have a good understanding of members’ experiences in the military. They are also provided with training to help them understand how to support people living with sight loss. The members, volunteers and staff who were interviewed all clearly benefit greatly from the befriending service as a valuable community and source of support.
The Quality in Befriending Award is the only award in the UK specifically tailored for befriending services. It is valued by referrers, befrienders, commissioners, and funders. Find out more about the Quality Award.
