Beth sydd gan bentref pictiwrésg wrth droed mynyddoedd Eryri (Snowdonia) yn gyffredin ag un o’r ardaloedd mwyaf poblog yng Nghaerdydd? Wel, ar wahân i fod o dan gynfasau o law ar y pryd, bu’r ddau’n cynnal gweithdai wedi’u hanelu at aelodau eglwysi sy’n ymwneud â gwirfoddoli yn eu cymunedau.

Mae Linking Lives Cymru yn brosiect partneriaeth rhwng Befriending Networks a Linking Lives UK, aelod o’n rhwydwaith sy’n helpu eglwysi i sefydlu cynlluniau cyfeillgarwch. Drwy gydol 2025, rydym wedi bod yn gosod y sylfeini i eglwysi a sefydliadau Cristnogol feddwl am sut y gall eu gwaith helpu i fynd i’r afael ag arwahanrwydd cymdeithasol, gan gynnwys hyfforddi eu gwirfoddolwyr mewn sgiliau a thechnegau ar gyfer cael sgyrsiau da.

Daeth y gweithdai yn Grangetown, Caerdydd, a Phenmaenmawr, Conwy, ag aelodau o eglwysi’r Methodistiaid, yr Eglwys yng Nghymru a’r Bedyddwyr ynghyd. Rhannwyd eu profiadau o weithio mewn banciau bwyd, boreau coffi, ymweliadau bugeiliol a mannau croesawgar eraill sydd yn aml yn rhoi cyfle i bobl unig gysylltu â phobl eraill. I rai, efallai mai dyma’r unig le y byddant yn cael sgwrs gyda pherson arall y diwrnod hwnnw, neu hyd yn oed yr wythnos honno. Bu’r grŵp yn ymarfer sgiliau i ymgysylltu â phobl a allai fod yn unig drwy sgwrs, a’u helpu i deimlo’n cael eu cefnogi, yn gysylltiedig ac yn cael eu gwerthfawrogi. Gwnaethom hyd yn oed rai ymarferion chwareus i dynnu sylw at ba mor bwysig yw iaith y corff a llinell golwg, gan eistedd gefn yn erbyn cefn wrth rannu straeon. Roedd awydd mawr yn y gweithdai i barhau â’r drafodaeth, ac rydym yn edrych ymlaen at fwy o gydweithio!

Wrth i’r sector elusennol barhau i ymdrin â heriau o ran cyllid a darparu gwasanaethau, rydym wedi gweld gwasanaethau cyfeillgarwch yn dioddef ac yn cau. Gallai eglwysi gynnig potensial heb ei fanteisio, gan gynnwys mannau parod a gwirfoddolwyr i gynnig cyfeillgarwch yn y cymunedau. Dyna pam ein bod yn cynnig cefnogaeth i eglwysi a sefydliadau Cristnogol sydd naill ai eisiau help i sefydlu cynllun cyfeillgarwch neu a fyddai’n elwa ar gymorth i gynnal neu ehangu’r gwaith y maent eisoes yn ei wneud. Cyn bo hir byddwn yn lansio cynllun grantiau bach ac yn gwahodd ceisiadau, felly cadwch lygad!

What do a picturesque village at the feet of the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) and one of the most densely populated parts of Cardiff have in common? Well, apart from being under sheets of rain at the time, they both played host to workshops aimed at members of churches engaged in volunteering in their communities.

Linking Lives Cymru is a partnership project between Befriending Networks and Linking Lives UK, a member of our network which helps churches set up befriending schemes. Throughout 2025, we’ve been laying the groundwork for churches and Christian organisations to think about how their work can help address social isolation, including training their volunteers in skills and techniques for good conversations.

Participants of the Good Conversations workshop in Cardiff.

The workshops in Grangetown, Cardiff, and Penmaenmawr, Conwy, brought together members from Methodist, Church in Wales and Baptist churches. They shared their experiences working at food banks, coffee mornings, pastoral visits and other welcoming spaces that often provide isolated people with a chance to connect. For some, it might be the only place they have a conversation with another person that day, or even that week. The group practiced skills for engaging potentially lonely people in conversation and making them feel supported, connected and valued. We even did some playful exercises highlighting how important body language and line of sight are, sitting back-to-back while sharing stories. There was great appetite at the workshops to take the conversation further and we’re looking forward to more collaboration!

As the charity sector continues to deal with challenges in funding and delivery, we’ve seen befriending services suffer and close. Churches could provide untapped potential, including ready-to-go spaces and volunteers to offer befriending in communities. That’s why we’re offering support to churches and Christian organisations who either want help setting up a befriending scheme or would benefit from help to sustain or expand the work they’re already doing. We’ll soon be launching a small grant scheme and inviting applications, so stay tuned!
