Badenoch and Strathspey Community Connexions is looking for a Volunteer and Befriending Coordinator to provide a befriending service to adults in Badenoch & Strathspey and support the recruitment, retention and development of volunteers.

Role Description
The main purpose of the role is to provide a Befriending Service to adults in Badenoch & Strathspey to help alleviate loneliness and social isolation. To support the recruitment, retention and development of our volunteers and help play a part in delivering our wider services for our community.
Key Tasks
Operation of the Befriending Service
- Coordinate and process all referrals and enquiries to the project.
- Visit service users to carry out holistic assessment of needs.
- Facilitate service user and volunteer befriender introductions.
- Signpost or make referrals to other agencies as appropriate.
- Monitor service user and volunteer matches.
- Promote and publicise the service, including the design and production of all materials.
- Liaise with other agencies/organisations as necessary both locally and nationally, including our funders and the befriending network.
- Develop and implement systems necessary for the smooth operation of the service.
- Ensure that the service adheres to best practice in its operation and management.
- Administrative support for other projects and areas including office support, as agreed with the CEO / Operations Manager.
Working with Volunteers
- In conjunction with BSCC staff, take a lead with recruiting, training and supporting the development of all volunteers.
- Attend community events and meetings, to promote our volunteering opportunities. Gather and respond to volunteer feedback to help shape our approach.
- Develop, review and maintain all relevant policies, procedures and marketing material.
- Ensure compliance with all BSCC policies, in particular lone working, equal opportunities, health & safety and safeguarding policies and procedures, including undertaking any risk assessments that may be necessary.
Monitoring, Record Keeping & Reporting
- Maintain up to date service monitoring data and explore efficiencies with digital technology.
- Maintain accurate records of our impact relating to service users and volunteers.
- Provide all necessary statistics and progress information by the required deadlines.
- Provide reports as required and work alongside our funding partners.
Events
- Help facilitate joint events with our Social Development Manager and attend community events to promote our organisation.
Other
- Maintain own professional expertise, including attending training as necessary, and be subject to an annual appraisal.
- Attend staff meetings, away days and other similar staff events.
- Undertake own computer work, both in the production of correspondence and documents, data recording, emailing and internet research.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post as may be agreed with the CEO.
General
It is in the nature of the work that tasks and responsibilities are in many circumstances unpredictable and varied. All employees are therefore expected to work in a flexible way and if necessary to take on tasks which are not detailed in their job description.
Some meetings and other events may be held out of normal office hours and may involve travel away from the local area.
Occasionally, it may be necessary for the post-holder to travel to various locations throughout Scotland and in Badenoch & Strathspey including visiting service users in their own homes.

- Good general level of education or equivalent level experience.

- Good attention to detail.
- Good IT skills, especially Windows 11, Microsoft Office and Excel spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of GDPR and data security issues.
- Knowledge of Badenoch & Strathspey and the local health and/or transport sector.
- Knowledge and understanding of transport poverty, isolation, mental health and social impact.
- Marketing experience.

About the organisation
In 1999 Badenoch and Strathspey Community Transport Company was created by and for the people of this area to provide accessible transport. In 2022, recognising that, through our transport provision, we were providing a wider range of services, we rebranded and changed our name. More recently, we have refreshed our purpose, vision and mission.
Our purpose is to strengthen our community by providing accessible transport and wellbeing opportunities. Our work is regularly recognised at a national level, most recently in June 2026 at the UK Community Transport Awards. The organisation is growing and developing at pace, with further opportunities in the years ahead, so it is an exciting time to get involved and help shape our development.
