New partnership with Linking Lives UK to support and grow befriending in Wales

Partneriaeth newydd gyda Linking Lives UK i gefnogi a thyfu cyfeillio yng Cymru
Mae partneriaeth newydd rhwng Befriending Networks a sefydliad Linking Lives wedi’i ffurfio i fynd i’r afael ag arwahanrwydd cymdeithasol ac unigrwydd yng Nghymru. Yn y flwyddyn i ddod, bydd y ddau sefydliad yn cydweithio i hyrwyddo a chefnogi cyfeillio.
Perthynas sy’n cael ei chefnogi gan sefydliad i alluogi cysylltiadau ystyrlon yw cyfeillio. Mae cyfeilliwr gwirfoddol yn cael eu paru ag unigolyn, a byddan nhw’n darparu gwasanaeth cyfeillio dros y ffôn, yn ymweld â’r cartref neu’n gwneud gweithgareddau gyda’i gilydd yn eu cymuned.
Ers 2022, mae Befriending Networks wedi bod yn gweithio er mwyn cynyddu nifer eu haelodau yng Nghymru gyda chyllid gan Gronfa Gymunedol y Loteri Genedlaethol Cymru. Mae hyn wedi creu rhwydwaith bywiog, cefnogol, gwybodus a chysylltiedig o sefydliadau cyfeillio.
Y llynedd, cynhaliodd Linking Lives ymchwil cychwynnol i lefelau o unigrwydd ac arwahanrwydd yng Nghymru gan fynd ati hefyd i nodi sefydliadau Cristnogol sy’n rhannu diddordeb yn y mater.
Meddai Simon Betteridge, Prif Weithredwr Linking Lives:
“Ers 2012, mae Linking Lives wedi bod yn gweithio er mwyn sefydlu cynlluniau cyfeillio lleol ar draws gwledydd Prydain. Gydag effaith pandemig Covid-19, fe welson ni fwy o angen, a gyda chefnogaeth ariannol Ymddiriedolaeth Benefact, rydyn ni wedi bod yn gweithio er mwyn datganoli ac esblygu ein model. Ar ôl dysgu o weithgareddau datblygu cenedlaethol a chymunedol yn Lloegr a’r Alban, rydyn ni bellach yn falch o allu symud ymlaen gyda chymorth datblygu ar lawr gwlad yng Nghymru.”
Yn gynnar yn 2025, cytunodd y ddwy elusen i weithio mewn partneriaeth, gan ddefnyddio’u harbenigedd, eu perthnasoedd a’u hadnoddau i ddarparu cymorth wedi’i dargedu drwy hyfforddiant Two’s Company a Good Conversations ar gyfer gwirfoddolwyr: gan sicrhau eu bod hefyd yn cynnal y rhwydwaith cyfeillio o sefydliadau sy’n bodoli a rhoi mynediad iddynt at gymorth cyfoedion, hyfforddiant, pecynnau cymorth, a digwyddiadau.
Meddai Susan Hunter, Prif Weithredwr Befriending Networks:
“Mae’r cyfle i weithio mewn partneriaeth â sefydliad Linking Lives yn sicrhau cynaliadwyedd tymor byr i ni o ran cymorth seilwaith ar gyfer y sector cyfeillio wrth i ni agosáu at ddiwedd tair blynedd o fuddsoddiad gan Gronfa Gymunedol y Loteri Genedlaethol Cymru yr haf yma. Bydd ein Gweithiwr Datblygiad, gyda’i berthnasoedd a’i gysylltiadau sefydledig, yn gallu cael effaith dros y 12 mis nesaf gyda ac er lles y sector cyfeillio.”
Bydd Matt Youde, Gweithiwr Datblygiad Cyfeillio sy’n gweithio yng Nghaerdydd, yn cefnogi gwasanaethau cyfeillio presennol ledled Cymru, ac yn gweithio gyda sefydliadau Cristnogol i sefydlu cynlluniau cyfeillio Two’s Company. Bydd unrhyw gynllun newydd yn dod yn rhan o aelodaeth y ddau sefydliad, gan sicrhau eu bod yn cael yr holl gymorth sydd ei angen arnynt i ddarparu cyfleoedd cyfeillio o ansawdd mewn cyd-ymdrech i fynd i’r afael ag arwahanrwydd cymdeithasol ac unigrwydd.
Meddai Matt Youde, Gweithiwr Datblygu Cyfeillio ar gyfer y bartneriaeth:
“Rydw i’n llawn cyffro am gael parhau i gefnogi gwaith cyfeillio yng Nghymru a meithrin perthnasoedd newydd. Dros y ddwy flynedd ddiwethaf, rydw i wedi bod yn ddigon ffodus i gael cwrdd â phrosiectau cyfeillio ledled y wlad, gan gynnwys rhai ym Mhowys, Sir Fynwy, Gwynedd, Conwy, Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr a Chastell-nedd Port Talbot. Rydw i’n dal i ryfeddu at yr effaith y mae cyfeillio, boed dros y ffôn, ar-lein, neu’n bersonol, yn ei chael ar les cymunedau. Rydw i’n croesawu’r cyfle i gadw mewn cysylltiad â’n haelodau presennol ac i dyfu gwaith cyfeillio yng Nghymru drwy’r bartneriaeth yma gyda sefydliad Linking Lives.”
Am y gweithgaredd partneriaeth
Bydd Matt Youde yn ymgymryd â swydd Gweithiwr Datblygiad Cyfeillio, ar ôl dal swydd Gweithiwr Datblygiad Aelodaeth Cymru ers 2023 gyda Befriending Networks.
Bydd gweithgarwch y bartneriaeth yn cynnwys:
- Datblygu cynlluniau cyfeillio Two’s Company Linking Lives yng Nghymru drwy gydweithio â sefydliadau Cristnogol.
- Bydd pum cynllun Two’s Company yn gymwys i gael cymorth ariannol ar gyfer costau cychwyn, costau trwydded gyswllt ar gyfer Linking Lives, ac aelodaeth o sefydliad Befriending Networks am hyd at 12 mis.
- Bydd gwirfoddolwyr ar draws sefydliadau cymunedol yn cael cynnig hyfforddiant fel Cysylltwyr Gwirfoddol, gan eu harfogi â’r sgiliau ar gyfer gwrando gweithredol a mynd i’r afael ag arwahanrwydd cymdeithasol.
- Cynnal rhwydwaith cyfeillio ar gyfer sefydliadau cyfeillio yng Nghymru.
- Cynnull gweithgareddau ar gyfer y sector cyfeillio i godi proffil y sector ac i gydnabod a diolch i wirfoddolwyr drwy gyfleoedd fel Wythnos Gwirfoddolwyr, Wythnos Ymwybyddiaeth Unigrwydd, ac Wythnos Cyfeillio.

New partnership with Linking Lives UK to support and grow befriending in Wales
A new partnership between Befriending Networks and Linking Lives UK has been formed to tackle social isolation and loneliness in Wales. In the year ahead, the two organisations will work together to promote and support befriending.
Befriending is a relationship supported by an organisation to enable meaningful connections. A volunteer befriender is matched with an individual, and they will provide telephone befriending, home visiting or do activities together in their community.
Since 2022, Befriending Networks has been working to grow its membership in Wales with funding from the National Lottery Community Fund Cymru. This has created a vibrant, supported, informed and connected network of befriending organisations.
Last year, Linking Lives UK undertook exploratory research into levels of loneliness and isolation in Wales whilst also identifying Christian organisations that share an interest in the issue.
Simon Betteridge, CEO of Linking Lives UK said:
“Linking Lives UK, since 2012, has been working to establish local befriending schemes across the UK. With the impact of Covid-19 pandemic we saw a greater need and, with the financial support of Benefact Trust, have been working to devolve and evolve our model. With learning from national and community development activities in England and Scotland, we are now excited to be moving forward with on the ground development support in Wales.”
In early 2025, the two charities agreed to work in partnership, drawing on their respective expertise, relationships, and resources to deliver targeted support for Two’s Company and Good Conversations training for volunteers: whilst also sustaining the established network for befriending organisations and providing access to peer support, training, toolkits, and events.
Susan Hunter, CEO of Befriending Networks said:
“The opportunity to work in partnership with Linking Lives UK offers us short-term sustainability for infrastructure support to the befriending sector as we near the end of three years of investment from NLCF Cymru this summer. Our Development Worker, with his established relationships and connections, will be able to make an impact over the next 12 months with and for the befriending sector.”
Cardiff-based Befriending Development Worker, Matt Youde will support existing befriending services throughout Wales, whilst also working with Christian organisations to set up Two’s Company befriending schemes. Any new scheme will become part of both organisations’ memberships, ensuring they receive all the support they need to provide good quality befriending opportunities in a combined effort to address social isolation and loneliness.

“I am excited to be continuing to support befriending in Wales and fostering new relationships. Over the past two years, I’ve had the good fortune to meet befriending projects throughout the country, including those in Powys, Monmouthshire, Gwynedd, Conwy, Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot. I continue to be struck by how impactful befriending matches, whether by phone, online, or in-person, can have on the wellbeing of communities. I welcome the opportunity to remain connected to our existing Welsh members and to grow befriending in Wales through this partnership with Linking Lives UK.”
About the partnership activity
Matt Youde will undertake the role of Befriending Development Worker, having previously held the position of Membership Development Worker for Wales since 2023 at Befriending Networks.
The partnership activity will include:
- Developing Linking Lives UK Two’s Company befriending schemes in Wales through working collaboratively with Christian organisations.
- Five new Two’s Company schemes will be eligible for financial assistance for start-up costs, affiliate licence costs of Linking Lives UK, and membership of Befriending Networks for up to 12 months.
- Volunteers across community organisations will be offered training as Volunteer Connectors, equipping them with the skills for active listening and tackling social isolation.
- Sustaining a befriending network for befriending organisations in Wales.
- Convening activities for the befriending sector to raise the sectoral profile and to recognise and thank volunteers through opportunities such as Volunteers Week, Loneliness Awareness Week, and Befriending Week.
