New UK Minister for Loneliness Appointed
5th August 2019
Baroness Diana Barran is the new UK Minister for Loneliness, having been appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary for Civil Society and Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Lords Minister. She will be responsible for managing Government business in the House of Lords and responds to Lords Questions for DCMS.
Barran has strong ties to the third sector as the founder of the domestic abuse charity SafeLives and time working with the charity sector think tank New Philanthropy Capital (NPC).
Shortly after her appointment Barran expressed, “It is an absolute honour to be appointed to this role. I have been a proud, passionate advocate of civil society for many years and have seen first hand how the hard work of our charities, volunteers, social enterprises and responsible businesses improve lives up and down the country. I am delighted to be able to use my experience to listen, champion and enhance the role of civil society in building stronger communities and a fairer society for everyone.”
We welcome the new Minister and look forward to continuing to work to end loneliness.
