About Age UK Barnsley
A regular call for a friendly chat can make all the difference for someone who is feeling lonely!
The aim of our telephone befriending service is to reduce loneliness and isolation, increase personal wellbeing and to provide companionship.
We can all feel lonely or isolated at times. This could be because we live on our own or may be when we are caring for someone.
Service Eligibility
Our telephone befriending service offers people aged 50 and over, living in the Barnsley Borough, a regular friendly conversation over the phone with one of our volunteer befrienders.
Telephone befriending services may not be as helpful for people with memory loss, dementia or mental health issues who need higher levels of support. These conditions may affect the person’s ability to build a telephone friendship and, in some instances, people with these conditions may actually find the calls more distressing. If this applies to you or someone you know, we will be happy to try to help you find a local service which may be able to support you better.
Information for Volunteers
Help brighten someone’s day and make a real difference through befriending!
We’re looking for friendly volunteers to support people who are looking for companionship and social connection. Whether it’s a chat over a cuppa or a 20-minute phone call, every conversation helps reduce loneliness, build confidence, and create meaningful friendships.
