About Age UK Solihull

Our Linking People Together service supports older people who are lonely and isolated to maintain social interaction, remain vital members of their local communities and aims to support clients to maintain a sense of health and wellbeing at a level appropriate for their individual needs.

A friendly volunteer can either visit a client in their home on a weekly basis to have a cup of tea and a chat or they can ring and have a chat over the phone.   Our volunteers are matched with clients that have similar interests with many forming long lasting friendships.

The Core Homer Road, Solihull, B91 3RG, GB

Service Eligibility

The Age UK Solihull Linking People Together service is for over 65’s who live alone in their own home (not in a care home/sheltered housing) and pay their council tax to Solihull Council.

N.B. We cannot accept clients with advanced dementia or severe mental health problems as our volunteers cannot provide this level of specialised support.

Cases are assessed on an individual basis but priority is currently being given to people who:

 Are housebound
 Have a long-term illness
 Have no family or other support locally
 Have low level memory loss
 Are aged 75 or over

Information for Volunteers

Thousands of local older people are extremely lonely, going for weeks, even months, without speaking to another person.

One of the ways you can help is by volunteering to befriend an older person.  Your friendly conversation and companionship will make a genuine difference to our clients lives, helping them to feel happier, positive and more connected.

The ideal befriender would be dependable, reliable, a good listener, with a friendly, open manner and the ability to put people at ease. Patience and an understanding of the challenges faced by older people is also important.

Please see our website for more information.
