Our Befriending service helps to combat loneliness for those who are housebound and living alone. We match each of our volunteer befrienders with someone who meets our criteria and they visit them for an ongoing regular weekly visit. Visits could involve a cup of tea and a chat, a game of cards or similar, the important thing is that it provides valuable companionship and support. Befriending transforms the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our community, it makes a real difference in reducing social isolation and loneliness and can lead to long lasting friendships .

Service Eligibility
Our Befriending Service supports people who live alone and are housebound within central Basingstoke and Sherfield on Loddon. Unfortunately we are unable to take referrals for people who have Dementia, severe mental health issues or drug and alcohol dependency.
Information for Volunteers
As little as an hour a week can much such a difference to the lives of people who are housebound and living on their own. As a volunteer Befriender, you may well be one of the only familiar faces that our clients will see on a regular basis and they will come to eagerly await your visit. Befriending transforms the lives of many of the most vulnerable people in our community and reduces social isolation and loneliness.
