BeFriends
About BeFriends
BeFriends provides help and support through a one-to-one Befriending and specialist groups to vulnerable and disadvantaged 5-25-year-olds throughout Dundee city. Befriending delivers regulated work with children and protected adults. It offers the support of trained, vetted and disclosure checked adult volunteers to local children, young people and protected adults who have been referred because they are experiencing difficulties in their lives or who are at risk of becoming socially isolated. The volunteers and young people enjoy activities together once per week or once every two weeks. These outings give the children and young people the opportunity to have fun and gain new experiences whilst also providing the chance to talk and discuss any problems or difficulties.

Information for Volunteers
Without volunteer befrienders, the charity BeFriends could not exist and offer high quality and exceptional support. Vetted volunteers are fully trained before being carefully matched to a young person. After matching the fun begins as volunteers and young people start to develop a befriending relationship through weekly or fortnightly contact. Spending time together can involve a range of activities such as playing games, going to events and doing arts and crafts at BeFriends, taking part in sports and meeting for a chat in a local cafe. Enjoying new experiences helps to develop a young person’s confidence, as well as their life and social skills. Befrienders gain valuable experience and training opportunities that are useful for self-development and are beneficial for those who want to work with children, young people and protected adults.
