About Changes East Lothian
Our Befriending service Well Connected helps individuals who may be struggling with low social contact, loneliness, isolation and low mental health. Volunteering as a Befriender means you can support someone during their journey to positive mental health, and help build back their confidence. This is a 1-1 wellbeing support service and and can be done in person or by phone.

Service Eligibility
Reside in East Lothian, aged 16+.
Suitability will be assessed by the project lead.
Information for Volunteers
You will work one-to-one with a befriendee who may be struggling with loneliness, isolation, and lack of social connections. You would have continuous support from your supervisor, fellow peers and get to relax yourself during social events.
What befriending looks like:
- One hour per week
- Face to face befriending
- Telephone befriending
During your time together you will:
- Build a strong rapport and relationship
- Implement positive change
- Create a trusting and supportive connection
- Engage in like-minded interests and hobbies
What you gain from this role:
- Support and supervision
- Training in Crisis Handling Awareness Training, (CHAT), Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and Mental Health First Aid Training (MHFA)
