About Dochas Carers Centre
The Befriending Service is provided by the Dochas Carers Centre to adults in the Mid Argyll, Kintyre and Islay area of Argyll. It gives volunteers the opportunity to provide friendship and contribute to the reduction of loneliness amongst adults.
The aim is to provide an enjoyable social experience for both volunteer and befriendee through companionship and conversation.
Mostly the hope is to have some fun and laughter together.

Service Eligibility
The Befriending Service is open to anyone of 18 year and over and living in the Mid Argyll, Kintyre and Islay area.
Information for Volunteers
The Befriender role entails visiting or phoning befriendees on a regular basis. They can meet at their home or get out and about and after a settling in period can agree between themselves what they want to do.
Key qualities of a Befriender:
- Trustworthy
- Responsible
- Good communication skills
- Patient and resourceful
- Care about others
- Well organised and committed.
The aim of the service is to help befriendees meet their goals e.g. improving self-confidence, learning a new skill and feeling more connected. Offering companionship, listening and communication.
The Befriender will also provide feedback to the Befriender Volunteer Coordinator.
The Befriender should be able to give an initial commitment of 6 months.
