Embracing Age
About Embracing Age
We befriend residents in care homes for older people in the London Borough of Richmond, across the Isle of Wight, in Hampshire and West Sussex. Our volunteers are vetted and trained, and visit residents weekly, doing activities together that a resident enjoys. This could be anything from simply chatting, going for a walk, reading aloud, looking at photos and pictures, playing a board game – the list is endless.

Information for Volunteers
We accept volunteers over 16 years of age who are looking to befriend older care home residents. You’ll need to provide two references and undergo a DBS check. All volunteers undertake some basic online training, to prepare you for the care home environment. Additional training in dementia is optional. Volunteers usually visit residents weekly. You will be visiting independently, but be supported in your role by the co-ordinator in each area (currently Richmond upon Thames, the Isle of Wight, Hampshire and West Sussex).
