About Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity
If you are living with a long-term or life-limiting illness – either yourself or that of a loved one – or are bereaved or elderly and experiencing loneliness, you might find being matched with one our befriending volunteers helpful. Our volunteer befrienders are fully trained to provide companionship to people in their local community. We will work with you to match you to a befriender that works best for you. The befriender will visit (usually weekly) for a cup of tea and a chat, a listening ear to any worries or concerns you have, or to help you to do the things you love and stay connected to your community. Alternatively, you can join one of our social groups at a local community hub run by volunteer befrienders.

Information for Volunteers
People living with long-term or life-limiting illness, their carers or recently bereaved family members can frequently experience loneliness. They often find it difficult to take part in normal life and can become increasingly isolated. As a volunteer befriender you will visit such an individual within your community for about an hour or two a week on a one-to-one offering friendship, emotional support and to help them to reengage with the things they like doing and stay connected with their local community. Alternatively you may help run one of our social groups at a local community hub.
