About Friends of the Family Winchester

Our 5s to 13s Befriending service provides early support to local children and families in and around the Winchester area.  We do this by offering one-to-one support to an individual child aged between 5 and 13 years through a trained volunteer befriender.  Befriender visits take place for two hours weekly and our trained befrienders involve a focus child in fun activities in and outside of the family home.  They work to help improve the child’s self-confidence and self-esteem and support the parents to find solutions to the issues they face.

England, SO23 9LH

Information for Volunteers

The 5s to 13s Befriending service provides sustained emotional and practical support to a focus child aged between 5 and 13 years for a period of 12 months.  Our befrienders spend two hours a week with a focus child engaged in positive activities in and outside of the child’s home.  They work to form a trusting friendship with the child, develop positive relationships with all family members and by drawing on their own experiences they help build the confidence of the focus child and family.

All befrienders are provided with initial training, ongoing support and regular supervision.
