About Highland Hospice
At Highland Hospice we aim to support people, their families and carers, living with an advancing, life shortening illness in the Highlands to live the best possible life and to prepare for and experience the best possible death. Highland Hospice Helping Hands service is a volunteer delivered befriending service. It provides social and practical support for people thought to be in the last 2-3 years of life. People do not need to have a specific diagnosis to receive support and the support delivered is tailored to the individuals needs within their own home community. The Helping Hands team also offer end of life support within Hospitals and Care Homes. This support is called No One Dies Alone and is for people with prognosis of 24-72 hours. The volunteers are companions who sit with people who have noone or the family member requires some respite or the support of someone to sit with them. Highland Hospice work in partnership with befriending services throughout the Highlands. We currently have ten partnership befriending services.

Information for Volunteers
Befriending is an opportunity to support people within your community who are struggling to get out and about and would welcome support either at home or by going on outings. Training and support delivered by staff at Highland Hospice. We also deliver NODA support when volunteers sit with people in hospital or nursing home last 24-72 hours who would otherwise be alone.
