Supportive Communities Refugee Befriending
About Inverclyde Community Development Trust
The ‘Supportive Communities’ project, is funded through HSCP Inverclyde, exists to help refugees settle in Inverclyde with the support of community volunteers. Our trained volunteers offer one -to-one befriending and also support for families, recently arrived in Inverclyde. Our refugee befriending project aims to make and build connections for those that have been displaced from their home countries and between people in their new community, this is with a view to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing as well as offering an means of cultural integration. Our project achieves this by offering support and by building a safe and trusting relationships between the client and a trained volunteer from the Inverclyde area. We offer our service users a time out of normal routines and possible avenues of respite, making individuals feel part of the community through one on one social support.
