Information for Volunteers
We offer a home study training package which allows volunteers to complete training in a flexible way. Befrienders are matched with an older person who is living at home and experiencing loneliness and social isolation. A regular (weekly or fortnightly) visit helps to brighten the befriendee’s week and the range of activities that our matches do varies widely depending on what the older person wishes to do. Visits usually last 1-2 hours. Some are home visits to chat and reminisce over a cuppa, perhaps doing crosswords or games. Other visits allow the older person to get out into the community with the volunteer, perhaps to a local cafe or beauty spot, perhaps to a medical appointment or for a spot of shopping together. The companionship of someone they will get to know well has big benefits for the older person and many describe their befriending visit as the highlight of their week.
