Agewell’s Befriending Flourishing Friendships service is a face to face befriending service for Older People living in the areas of Ballymena, Carrickfergus and Larne. Volunteers are matched with those seeking befriending, based on mutual interests and are supported to meet regularly for friendship and conversation with visits taking place in the Older Person’s home.

Older People often tell us thatwhat they would benefit frommost is a regular friendly face overa cup of tea. By choosing to joinus as a Befriending Volunteer youwill be contributing toward theimprovement of Older Peoples lifeof Mid and East Antrim.What’s involved?; Regular home visits; Talking and listening; Providing companionship; Helping to reduce feels ofisolation and lonelinessYou will receive an induction andon going training to help you withyour role. In addition to this, youwill be supported by a Agewellstaff member throughout yourvolunteer journey.The role is based in thecommunity therefore you will needaccess to a car or public transportto make your visits.What you wont be expectedto do?; Personal care, for example:bathing, showering, washingand feeding; Lifting, moving or handlingpeople; Administering medication; Managing personal financesPreferred qualities andskillsAs a volunteer befriender atAgewell we would like you to be:; Kind and caring; A good listener andcommunicator; Patient, flexible and reliable; Ability to work independently; Able to respect other cultures,backgrounds and choicesAs part of this role, you will berequire to have an enhancedAccess NI check.Time commitment – Ideally as a befriending volunteerwe would like you to commit to aminimum of one visit per week fora commitment period of at leastone year.
