About Omega, Ending Isolation/Ending Loneliness

By supporting lonely and socially isolated people within our society, we at Omega aim to help our clients build resilience and extend their independence through befriending, information sharing, self-help, and peer support.  This is done by offering a variety of services including Chatterbox, a free telephone befriending service and Letterbox, a free pen pal befriending service, both of which aim to help connect people and help put an end to the isolation epidemic. Looking at Chatterbox specifically, this is a free telephone befriending service for socially isolated, acutely lonely people, and for people who provide caring support to others.  Our clients are carefully matched to DBS-checked volunteer befrienders, with whom they exchange supportive, friendly phone calls.  They chat about their lives, families, and interests.

Information for Volunteers

Join our very capable volunteers who give their time, skills and passion to keep people connected and living well in later life.  Volunteering gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you are making a difference.  As well as helping people, volunteering has been shown to improve the wellbeing of volunteers too, and it’s a great way to gain new skills and experience, meet people and make new friends.  Our volunteers are from all walks of life and are aged from 19 years to 106.  We couldn’t have such a positive impact on older people’s lives without them.  We offer a range of volunteering opportunities for you to choose from.  No matter how much time you have to give or where you are based, there will be something that will suit you.
