About One Place East
We offer social and emotional support to a person who has become isolated through mental ill health. Befriending offers the opportunity to share new interests and make new social connections. The service is committed to social inclusion and supporting people in their recovery. Our Befriending service aims to improve the quality of life for people with a mental health problem by reducing isolation and encouraging engagement in social activity.
Service Eligibility
The Service is for adults age 18+ who have or have had a mental health problem living in the London Borough of Redbridge. Referrals to the service are made by completing a referral form and risk assessment .
Information for Volunteers
- Volunteer application forms can be downloaded from our website or contact the main office.
- Volunteers must be willing to undergo basic training and a DBS check.
- Volunteers must be over 18.
- Volunteer role entails visiting someone face to face or if preferred by telephone, must have a minimum of 2 hours per week to spare.
- Volunteers must be committed to promoting social inclusion, can work independently, are reliable, patient, non-judgemental and sensitive to the needs of others.
- We offer volunteers comprehensive training, out of pocket expenses, references for future employment and individual and group support.
- Our volunteers are highly valued and we strive to ensure that befriending is a positive experience.
