About Oxgangs Care Befriending
Serving the EH10 and EH13 areas of Edinburgh, Oxgangs Care has been fostering meaningful connections for older adults since 1992. Our Befriending Service offers new company, social interaction and emotional support to those aged 60 and over, reducing loneliness and isolation, and enhancing well-being through one-to-one companionships carefully matched to individual needs and interests. Delivered by trained Volunteers, our service empowers older adults to maintain their independence, confidence, and quality of life. Service Eligibility
Our Befriending Service supports adults aged 60 and over living in the EH10 and EH13 areas of Edinburgh who are socially isolated or living alone. Many of our service users face challenges such as dementia, mobility issues, sensory impairments, or mental health conditions like anxiety or depression. Referrals can be made by family members, friends, social workers, carers, healthcare professionals, or directly by individuals themselves. Information for Volunteers
Join our team of Befrienders and make a lasting impact in the EH10 and EH13 areas. As a Befriending Volunteer, you’ll provide companionship to an older adult through regular home visits or phone calls, typically requiring a commitment of 1-2 hours per week. Key qualities we seek include empathy, reliability, and good communication skills.
Anyone aged 18 or over can apply, you don’t need any previous experience. Volunteers receive full training, ongoing support, and reimbursement for expenses. We will arrange a PVG check via Disclosure Scotland for every Volunteer.
