Survivors Unite offers skilled, compassionate recovery support to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse in the Scottish Borders through the Safe Oaks Project.
Our Befriending Service connects survivors with trained volunteers who also have lived experience. They understand the lifelong impact of abuse and the challenges of recognising difficult emotions.
This confidential service offers:

Service Eligibility
Volunteers must have accessed our services in the past, or currently, and must have completed their main therapy.*
*Survivors who are still accessing ongoing support such as monthly calls or the peer support group are eligible to apply.
Must be able to travel within the Scottish Borders.

Become a Befriending Volunteer:
Make a real difference in someone’s life — simply by being there.
We’re looking for compassionate, reliable volunteers to support adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse through our Befriending Service. You’ll offer regular one-to-one chats, provide a friendly, supportive space, and help reduce isolation.
This is not a counselling role — just a chance to offer connection, understanding, and a listening ear.
Time commitment: 1-2 hours a week, for at least 6 months.
Key qualities: empathy, good listening skills, reliability, respect for boundaries, and willingness to undergo training.
