Tandem
About Tandem
An independent charity offering befriending partnerships to people recovering from a period of mental ill-health in Oxford City. We support about 20 partnerships each year, and run a weekly social group. Our aim is to support people while they regain confidence and start to pick up the social networks and activities they previously engaged in.

Service Eligibility
Tandem is primarily for residents of Oxford city, but we are able from time to time to cover referrals from neighbouring villages (e,.g. Kennington, Kidlington etc.). Our service is for adults from 18 upwards. If you have a significant alcohol or drug addiction we may ask you to tackle that first, so that we can offer a more effective pathway to recovery. You can be referred by any GP, mental health professional or voluntary agency, but because we are a small charity with limited resources it may take a little while to find a suitable volunteer to match with you. We do have a weekly Social Group which might be useful as support while you wait for a partnership.
Information for Volunteers
Tandem provides one-to-one befriending outside of the home to people in the immediate Oxford area who have been through a period of mental ill-health and are looking to rebuild their lives. We also run a weekly social group that has outings to local places of interest. Just as cycling is easier when two people share the strain, so Tandem offers befriending to help people through the pain of mental distress and social isolation.
