About Without Walls

Our ‘Thrive’ project was established in 2013 and has grown and evolved since then with befriending being key. We are helping to alleviate loneliness and social isolation as we aim to help improve overall health and well-being of our clients and in many instances the extension of life.  Many of our guests are vulnerable, experiencing disadvantage and distress. We offer 1 to 1, group and telephone befriending.

We visit our guests regularly with some receiving weekly visits and others monthly. We aim to connect volunteers with someone who is within reasonable distance. Most of our work operates across Leicestershire and Derbyshire and we also offer telephone calls regularly which again allows some human connection. We signpost our clients to our other project services where they can meet other people such e.g. lunch clubs, singing cafes, community fridge & breakfast sundays.

Service Eligibility

There are no exclusions, only distance, although many of our clients are over 65 yrs. We will look to support anyone who needs our help. Referrals can be done through our form on our website or just start with a call or email. Anyone can refer and we will try to make the process as seamless as possible.

Information for Volunteers

Good  volunteers are interested in people, are patient and a good listener.  Being able to drive is also helpful so as to get around to people’s homes.  We will do our own DBS check and provide you with support, training and reimburse any out of pocket expenses.
