Rushcliffe Befriends
About YOURCVS Notts
Rushcliffe Befriends is a community-led initiative designed to combat loneliness and isolation across the Rushcliffe district. We understand that feeling socially disconnected can profoundly impact individuals’ well-being, and our mission is to create meaningful connections within our community. We have a team of volunteers who either visit people in their homes for a cuppa and a chat, or give people a call once or twice a week to catch up and share conversation. We also hold group social events in a warm space with free refreshments, chair-based exercise and an activity or entertainment of some sort.
Rushcliffe Befriends has become a lifeline to many people in the local community. It helps them feel more connected and gives them something to look forward to.
Service Eligibility
Rushcliffe Befriends is for people in the borough of Rushcliffe who are over 65 and are lonely and/or isolated. Many have mobility restrictions, due to health, social anxiety or poor transport links. Most people are referred in through a healthcare professional although some do self-refer. Unfortunately, we cannot support people with alcohol or drug dependencies, significant mental health challenges or dementia.
Information for Volunteers
You will offer a lifeline to the most lonely and isolated people in Rushcliffe. You only need commit to an hour a week – giving somebody a call for a chat – however, if you have more time we have a role for you. You will be a good listener, warm-hearted and considerate but above all have a desire to give something back to older people who just want a chat and a kind face to help them feel less isolated. You will keep in regular contact with the friendly office team after each visit or call. We also offer regular group events where people can meet up in a safe and warm space for refreshments, exercise, activities, singing, talks and more. If you would prefer to volunteer at one of these we are always happy to welcome new volunteers along.
We offer a volunteer training package and handbook, free DBS check, a friendly team in the office to give you support and re-imbursed mileage.
