Oxgangs Care – Albert and Alex
25th September 2019
Albert was recently widowed and, when he moved from his family home to sheltered accommodation in an area he wasn’t familiar with, he was isolated and feeling lonely.
Alex a young man from Ireland, was studying in Edinburgh and applied to become a volunteer befriender with Oxgangs Care Befriending service. He was introduced to Albert. They met weekly and visited many different sights in Edinburgh. Albert was able to introduce Alex to different parts of the city such as the Modern Art Gallery, the National Museum and Portobello beach.
Both Albert and Alex benefited from befriending, both enjoyed their weekly outings. During the time spent together Alex learned about different parts of Edinburgh and Albert felt less lonely and isolated.
