Purpose of Course

Our course guides you through the full training cycle—preparing, facilitating, and evaluating training. Through a blend of live online sessions and self-paced e-learning, you’ll build practical skills to strengthen volunteer or staff training programmes, with opportunities to collaborate, ask questions, and apply your learning in real time.

Learning Objectives

This course covers a wide range of materials, activities and tasks to support participants in developing the skills of a trainer. Learning objectives include, but are not limited to:

  • Understand different learning styles and their impact on training
  • Plan engaging and inclusive training sessions
  • Demonstrate facilitation and presentation skills in training delivery
  • Overcome common training challenges
  • Build confidence in training design and facilitation abilities
  • Evaluate your content and delivery effectively

Time Commitment

We recommend one month for this course, allowing time to prepare for the first class and review learning at the completion of the final class. The course runs across three weeks, with one live Zoom session per week and approximately two hours of independent study per session.

In advance of the first class, participants will receive access to e-learning for independent study, accessing resources, weekly assignments, and ongoing support. This is to support participants’ time management and to ensure course assignments can be completed on time.

Dates for your diary

Attendance at all three core sessions and completion of all assignments are required for certification. The course schedule is:

  • E-learning – Access to our training platform begins on Tuesday 2 June 2026
  • Week One: Preparing, Tuesday 9 June 2026, 12:30 – 15:30
  • Week Two: Facilitating, Tuesday 16 June 2026, 12:30 – 15:30
  • Week Three: Evaluating, Tuesday 23 June 2026, 12:30 – 15:30
  • Optional – Student Drop-In, can be arranged with the course facilitator at any point after week one

What does the course cover?

Pre-course activities

This course uses a blended learning approach. Learners are given early access to the training platform and are expected to complete independent learning, assignments, and class activities.

  1. Completing registration on the training platform and accessing Train the Trainer.
  2. Completing a diagnostic survey to ensure your facilitator can tailor the course to your needs.
  3. Accessing the e-learning of Train the Trainer and beginning your independent learning.
  4. Learners are to schedule time in their diary to complete weekly assignments and attend classes.

Notes for learners

This course requires good time management; however, the facilitator is available throughout the course to support learners who may be struggling.

Week #1 Preparing

Learn how to design effective, inclusive training sessions for your participants. Topics explored in week one include:

  1. Learning styles and inclusive planning.
  2. The role of learning objectives and transparency in learning.
  3. How to create a teaching plan.
  4. Preparation strategies for facilitators.
  5. And more.

Assignment of week one

All participants prepare and submit a teaching plan for a training session to demonstrate their ability to design effective sessions and their understanding of the subject matter.

Week #2 Facilitating

Take your planning forward into action with live peer facilitation. Topics explored in week two include:

  1. Creating an engaging learning environment.
  2. Reviewing the importance of tone and structure.
  3. Managing your training space (virtual or in-person).
  4. Applying facilitation styles using Zoom.
  5. And more.

Assignment of week two

All participants deliver a 15-minute training session to their peers, demonstrating their ability to facilitate.

Week #3 Evaluating

Receive and give feedback while planning improvements. Topics explored in week three include:

  1. Methods for gathering meaningful feedback.
  2. Reviewing and refining content.
  3. Evaluating training effectiveness and future improvements.
  4. Collecting and evaluating data.
  5. And more.

Assignment of week three

All participants will reflect on their own facilitation of week two, and evaluate their peers’ sessions using the provided tools.

There is a student drop-in available for any participant who would like additional support. These are online sessions on Zoom for those who want or need time with the course coach to discuss course materials and assignments.

Cancellation Policy

Please check your diary before committing to any dates. We understand that your circumstances may require a change of training dates. If you need to cancel or defer your order:

  • Up to 48 hours before the course begins: your order will be refunded, subject to a £15 administration fee. Alternatively, you can defer your order to the next occurrence of the same course.
  • Within 48 hours of the course beginning, including non-attendance: your order is non-refundable and cannot be deferred.

Please note that all courses operate with a minimum number of delegates. If this number is not obtained, we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule the event date. Your event facilitator will contact you to discuss options. In such cases where we cannot fulfil your order, a full refund will be given.
